One of the most beautiful, or the best, balcony overlooking the Orta lake, is Madonna del Sasso Sanctuary. It was build on a rock spur about 600 meters height, on the west side of the lake, in front of Orta. This church was completed in 1748 as a substitute of an old chapel. Let me say that ‘Madonna del Sasso’ (‘Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Rock’) is a common name when a church is build on a rock but I does not matter.
